Project Time Flashback

Hey Hey Everyone, It's project time. I just sent out this project to my newsletter subscribers. With the Holidays past us, it just reminds me of how quickly "Time Flies". Therefore that's what I named this months project. If you would like the instructions on how to make this necklace sign up for my e-mail newsletter and you'll get them. I send out a new project every month.

Have a great day!

Springy Necklace Flashback

Hello everyone,

I have noticed that this week everything has bloomed here. I know you are all sick of hearing about how my spring has arrived. But if you have allergies, like all of the Heynen family does, it's not all rosey. Along with all of the beautiful blooms comes a coating of yellow pollen. Yes it's so thick you can see it. By April, if you park your car outside, you have to wash the windows to see through them. Something I learned about when I moved to Athens, the countries worst region for allergies, is the pollen count. I have seen mention of this on the weather channel but never really paid attention to it. This count tells you how much pollen is in the air, duh. An example of a moderate pollen count is somewhere between 30-60. Today in Athens ours is 191, which is in the extremely high range. Last year at the end of March, our pollen count was 5768! Yes I typed that right 5768. What the heck? Okay, probably more than you ever needed to know about the pollen count.

Above is a necklace I made that is very springy and has no pollen.
Have a great day!

Easy Earthtones Flashbacks

Check out this fabulous necklace designed by Katie Hacker for Simply Beads. The instructions are all in the August issue available now. If you have never checked out Katie's Beading Blog you should now, she has loads of great beading ideas. I love the necklace she has across the top of her blog right now. It's so cute with the chain and shell beads. I might need to make my own version of the necklace with some Jangles beads. Hmmm.....the wheels are a turning in my head.

Have a great day,
Jennifer

Earring Project Flashback

Here's a snazzy pair of long and dangle-ly Jangle-ly earrings.

I had a project in my email newsletter today for an necklace. I couldn't resist making a pair of matching earrings. I thought I would share the project instructions with you.

Supplies Needed:
1 pair of Seaside Jangles Ceramic Hoops
2 10-12mm wooden discs
4 Montana blue 6mm Crystal bi cones
8 Ecru size 6 seed beads
4 inches 20 gauge sterling silver wire
2 silver 4 inch headpins
2 ear hooks

Tools Needed:
chain nose pliers
wire cutters

Instructions:
Step 1. Start by string a seed bead, a wooden disc, a crystal, and another seed bead onto one of your headpins. Make a simple wire loop just above the beads and slide it onto one end of the ceramic hoop before closing it. Trim the excess wire.

Step 2. Make another small simple wire loop with your silver wire, slide it onto the remaining loop on the ceramic hoop and close.

Step 3. Next, string a seed bead, a crystal, and another seed bead onto the wire. Just above those beads make a simple wire loop. Trim the excess wire. Attach the ear wire to the loop you just made. Congratulations, you have an earring.

Step 4. Because you don't want to walk around lop-sided you'll need to make another earring. Follow steps1-3 to do that.

Enjoy your project,
Jennifer

Holiday Orders, shipping time, etc

Hi everyone...
I thought I should officially post about Holiday orders, shipping time, and things like that. Usually things just kind of wind down on their own and so I never really say, "Jangles is closing" and I won't say it this year either. But just in case your e-mailing me and I am slow to respond...you can read this and understand. Don't worry, I will get back to you it just might take a day or two.

I will ship any Etsy orders until the 24th...if you need it by a certain date, please send me an e-mail right away and let me know. For website orders, if it's in stock I will also send it out, if I need to make it...well, it could take some time. It's Christmas break at my house so I won't be in the studio much. After the first of January everything will go back to normal...whatever that is:)

Keep checking back at the blog, I will still be posting and I am going to do some project reposts for inspiration. I hope everyone has Happy and Relaxing Holidays.

Snowflakes

I wanted to share my craft project with you this weekend. I always have seen these wire snowflakes in stores and websites, but I never thought to do anything with them. My boys like to string beads so I thought we would get some and give them a whirl. We had so much fun making them. We did some with patterns and others just however the beads went on. I am now going to have to head to the store for some suction cups so I can get them up on our windows.

Morning Y'all

Morning Y'all,
It's 6:30 and I am just about to head out to the studio. Yikes it's early, haven't even had my coffee. I am working funny hours today, because I have sick little people home from school. Nothing is going to stop me from getting my open house orders through the kiln today. I am determined to finish. I will be shipping everything today or tomorrow.

So beyond glazing, I don't have anything to report from Jangles studio. Therefore I will direct you to the fabulous Art Bead Scene blog where there is lot's going on. It's the 12 days of Christmas. It's a new project everyday for twelve days. Have fun looking.

Have a great day,
Jennifer

My New project

Hey Hey, thought I would show you what I bought last night! I have been searching for a craft project, one that I can do during the holidays. (No, I don't know how to sit still.) I wanted something that was not jewelry and that I could take with me. I got my Etsy newsletter yesterday and became entranced by this felt food. I have seen a lot of it around but I think this is just the cutest. So I spent all night online searching for the right colors of wool felt and ordered my book. I can't wait to get it now. I want to make cakes, because ever since I was little I wanted to be a cake decorator. I do make quite a few but they are so full of calories, I hate to have them sitting around. Here is the perfect solution, felt cake! Plus I am imagining all of my goodies will have sprinkles on them, which will be beads.

Here's a link to the Etsy article, there's even a free project.

I will post sme pictures once I make some.
Have a great day,
Jennifer

Tis The Season...

Hey all...Sorry I haven't been blogging. It's that time of the year when everyone is super bus, including me. As you know I had my open house last week so I am still trying to get beads made and out for those orders. I am trying my best to get everything shipped by the end of the week. Therefore, I am spending a lot of time in the glaze studio and not near the computer. Luckily it's supposed to be warm today, almost 60, so I wont be freezing while I glaze.

I have to tell one funny story before I head out to the studio. If you read my Open house posts you saw that I have a lot of mishaps at the holidays. We had another one on Sunday, but his wasn't my fault, really. My husband was out of town Friday so the boys and I went to get the tree. Now setting up a live tree by yourself is really difficult, but I managed to get it done. The boys were anxious to decorate. We got is up and the next morning we decorated it. It was really nice and as always looked huge once we got it in the house. My youngest guy, slept out in the family room Saturday night. At six in the morning, he comes into our room and says, "mommy, the tree just fell on me". It had! we ran out to the family room and saw it had landed across his legs on the footstool of the chair. Luckily no one was hurt and we only had two ornaments break. He wasn't freaked out at all, very calm, unlike his mother. So after an hour of struggling and finally tying it to the window the tree is back up. Hopefully this is the only mishap of the season.

Have a great day,
Jennifer

We have a winner

Hey everyone...I don't know about you but I had a blast at the open house last night. It was so much fun to have all of my favorite people online at once. We had people from all over the country and Canada. Someone did suggest that next year we have to say the state we are from. I love that idea.

So the winner of the 50.00 gift certificate is Debbie Strong! Woohoo! Congratulations.

I have spent the day packing and shipping so if you placed and Etsy order last night..it's coming soon.

I gotta get back to work, but thanks again for such a fun night!

I stand by this little tree everyday when I fetch with my dog. I am always careful to not let Otis trample it because I want it to grow up to be big. But for the time being, it reminds me of Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. It really needed an ornament, now if it would just snow here in Georgia.

Side Stories, the mishaps of Jennifer at the holidays, part 2

Side Stories…Getting ready for Christmas..more resons why I am a Holiday nut

My best friend, Tarin, and I would start out getting ready for the holidays early and earlier every year when we were little. We would start in September making our paper chains that would count down the days until Christmas. We would also have sleep over’s and practice sneaking out to see what Santa had brought us on Christmas. We would have flash lights and walky talkies and would compare notes on how to do this at each others houses.

These days at my house, my boys are 5 and 7 and so far I have had to wake them up every year to see what Santa has brought them. I just don’t know where I went wrong…is it because they are boys or is it just that there mom is crazy? I remember starting at 4:00 and waking my parents up every half hour until they would finally let us get up at 6:00.

I tried to get several of these bracelets made for the open house, they have been my most popular in the Etsy shop. They have one of my ceramic toggles and three of my medium ceramic beads. Then I add a little bit if everything to the bracelet. These bracelets have glass, shell, wood, nuts, and more. I don’t use plastic beads in my work. I have some funky hoop earrings to match in the shop also.

Good Luck!

Hair Sticks

I thought I would share another recently added item to the Etsy shop. My hair sticks. There were featured in Simply Beads this month. I like to wear these; my sticks are shorter than what’s usually used. They don’t stick out so far. Sometime those sticks can be pokey to others, they are so long. My sticks are about four inches plus the doo dads on the ends. I usually use two but one would work just fine.

Side Stories, the mishaps of Jennifer at the holidays

So if you pay any attention to my blog you have probably figured out I love the Holidays. I get pretty excited about stuff, sometimes too excited. So over the years I have had some pretty funny and not so funny stuff happen. I thought I would share some of these stories with you….

When I was about 10, I was getting Christmas punch out of peculator and pushed so hard on the handle it tipped over and burnt my hand. I had to have it medicated and wrapped for a few days after that.

The following year, at our Christmas ever dinner, I stuck a fondue fork straight out of the hot oil into my mouth; I have blisters for a week after that. That same Christmas our friends were about to come down for a party. Our artificial tree that had seen better days, had tons of presents under it, my mom asked me to pull out the presents for the party. I did but I guess I pulled to hard, because the tree went crashing over onto the coffee table. The crash broke almost all of my great grandma’s antique glass ornaments. Oops!

I did have a few years free of mishaps but when I was in high school, it was the last day of school before Christmas break. It was snowing really hard and the phone rang at 6:00 am, it was my friend calling to tell me school had been cancelled. I not being a morning person went running for the phone half asleep; I caught my foot on the floor heater ad broke my toe. Good thing I got out of school that day.

So the most recent mishap, which was my most costly, was a few years ago. My boys were little and we were on or way out to drive around and look at Holiday lights. I got really excited about it like I always do and backed my van into my husband’s car. His card was dented in and my bumper was hanging off. Since that Christmas, I really try to not get so worked up. But it’s kind of the standing joke now, what will Jennifer do this Christmas to hurt herself.
